Only 4 days to go, time to pack the bags for Texas. So I thought I share with you what a professional takes with him to be prepared for Texas.
First my golfbag. 14 clubs starting with my driver. I play a Taylor Made Sim 2 driver with a custom fujikura speeder 757 stiff shaft which is one inch shorter. My clubheadspeed has 6.5 degrees of loft and is 3 degrees open.
My fairway wood is a 4 wood Callaway maverick with 16.5 degrees and a custom project X even flow black shaft in stiff and is as well one inch shorter. The shorter shafts help me to make better contact.
My hybrid is a Taylor Made with a graphite design tour AD shaft. The shaft is stiff and is originally made for utility irons. With the light clubhead it actually plays a little bit stiffer, but helps to reduce height making the ball fly a bit more low with less spin.
I play a cobra driving iron 4 in 21 degrees which has been reshafted with an Aerotech steelfibre stiff shaft. I need the iron on long par 3 or par 4 holes on my approach. I can hit it around 195yds carry, so for approaches upto 210yds it works fine.
My irons 5-9 are Titleist AP2 irons with a custom aldila vs proto stiff shaft. The carry is 138yds for a 9 iron upto 182yds for a 5 iron. It is not very long, but actually long enough and the irons are pretty precise.
Apart from that I carry 4 wedges. A Taylor Made 48 degree custom wedge, two titleist vokey wedges in 54 and 58 degrees with different sole grind and a Callaway 64 degree PM grind wedge. This way I have a lot of options around the green and from 100yds in. All wedges have the same graphite shaft and are all the same length to keep the feel constant.
Finally my Taylor Made putter I really like playing with and always make a few long putts with. It is very reliable on short putts and let’s me hole some really long ones as well. There are always two or three long putts on 18 holes I make, so I really love that putter.
Then I have a lot more stuff in my bag, balls, tees, alignment sticks, my orange whip lightspeed for warmup, my putting arc, the gated putting mirror, putting gates, putting string and two little target circles for practice. And my glove, rangefinder and my new “don’t tread on me” ballmarker of course.
And yes, the rest of my luggage are golf shoes, 6 polos, 2 sweaters, 4 trousers and socks and underwear. That all fits into the hand luggage backpack.
Finally I have some camera equipment with me and all cables as well as a solar charger to keep my phone running. Makes sense in Texas where the sun is almost always shining.
That’s all. Everything packed and ready to go.
